Department of Ophthalmology
General Description:
The Ophthalmology service provides care to children suffering from common eye conditions such as squint and refractive errors. In addition the service offers evaluation and treatment of complex eye conditions such as congenital cataract, congenital glaucoma and visual problems associated with neurological disease.
Service Provided by the Department:
- Evaluation and treatment of squint
- Evaluation and treatment of congenital eye abnormalities
- Orthoptic assessment and treatment
- Surgery for all conditions affecting the eye in childhood.
- Management of congenital cataract
- Management of glaucoma
Access to the Ophthalmology Service:
- Cases are referred both internally through consultant referrals and externally from family doctors and area medical officers.
