Department of Orthoptic

General Description:
An orthoptist is a health care professional who assesses, diagnoses and manages various disorders of the eyes, extra-ocular muscles (eg. squint) and anomalies of vision (eg. amblyopia / lazy eye). Orthoptists work in close liaison with ophthalmologists.

Service Provided:

  • Assessment diagnosis and management of patients referred by the ophthalmologist
  • Pre and Post squint surgery assessment
  • Assessment of visual fields

Access to the Orthoptic Service:

  • Referrals are accepted to this service via the ophthalmology department in this hospital.
