School of Nursing
SERVICE PROVIDED
The School of Nursing at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children has been established since March 1957 and has a proud history in the education and training of sick children's nurses.
The School of Nursing is responsible for:
- the education and training of student nurses in the care of sick children and their families in accordance with the regulations of An Bord Altranais
- the continuing education and training of qualified staff.
At present the nurse education courses/ services provided by the School of Nursing include:
- 18 month post-registration Higher Diploma in Nursing Studies (Sick Children's Nursing) course which is run in partnership with the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University College Dublin (UCD)
- Continuing professional education / in-service training for qualified nursing personnel.
- Orientation and adaptation programmes for newly registered and newly appointed nursing personnel.
- The ongoing provision of theoretical and clinical practice (paediatric) for student nurses on secondment from other disciplines/hospitals.
- Represent paediatric educational interests at local and national level.
- Act as a resource for the hospital on aspects of nurse education.
